Mutual respect
SUMMARY: In this section of the article, the author discusses how ethical diversity from immigration, fosters mutual respect amongst employees in the work force. Regardless of the way employees are organized within a company, colleagues who represent various cultures and generations will offer new perspectives and skill sets to contribute to the company. The article concludes that, employees will recognize the various strengths and talents that diversity offers their company, therefore they will gain a respect for their colleagues’ performance.
ANALYSIS: Like mentioned in the article, diversity amongst employees within a company can foster colleagues to gain respect for the various talent that diversity offers, and therefore respect for the various individuals. This respect within the company will then translate into their performance. A respectful workplace community, fosters the same effect in diverse communities within a given society. Therefore, there has been a significant “push” for diversity and opportunities for minorities within the workplace. This closely resembles affirmative action used in American history, specifically during the civil rights movement in the 60s and 70s. As a result, racial minorities integrated into the workforce to positions of authority, and colleagues gained respect and tolerance for diversity in the workplace. This concept continues to help society gain respect for racially diverse individuals and recognize their positive contributions to society. Thus, this has allowed the American work force to get where it is today, which is a society that is much more accepting of differences among employees. With a foundation of mutual respect, businesses have experienced an enhancement in their reputation within the American and global market.
