The United States is much different than it was I'm the beginning. Since society was predominantly white, the country had a white vs. minority mentality, which did not represent the founding principles of which our nation was founded. However, after generations of immigrants and integration, America is more united. People of all different ethnicities are willing to stand up to racial injustice and discrimination. With the continuation of immigration and racial intermixing, people will become more tolerant and unified as we begin to accept that America is in fact "the nation of immigrants."

"We didn’t raise the Statue of Liberty with her back to the world, we did it with her light shining as a beacon to the world. And whether we were Irish or Italians or Germans crossing the Atlantic, or Japanese or Chinese crossing the Pacific; whether we crossed the Rio Grande or flew here from all over the world — generations of immigrants have made this country into what it is. It’s what makes us special."
